Accessing the Throne Room: An Introduction
What does the 1975 Super Bowl have to do with the Throne Room? You might be surprised.
That year I was gifted front row end zone seats to Super Bowl IX where the Pittsburg Steelers defeated the Minnesota Vikings. Frankly, it was a miserable day. Cold. Sleeting rain. Windy. And even though I was only 60 feet from the playing field, I looked up and dreamed of being in the Skybox. Why?
The Skybox is where I could be warm, well fed, and have a magnificent view of the entire field. That is where the “important” people were. That is where I could relax, eat the magnificent food and chat with the many dignitaries there.
But I did not have the right ticket to enter.
Throne Room: God’s Skybox in Heaven
In reflecting on this blog, it became so evident to me that the Throne Room of Heaven IS God’s Skybox! It also became evident that as a believer, I already have access to the Throne Room even as I live here on earth.
How can that be? Let’s look at four sets of verses in Ephesians that should exhort you that you already have immediate access right now.
#1: Ephesians 1:17-23 (NKJV)
17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,
18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,
19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power
20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,
21 far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come.
22 And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
Reread the highlighted parts of these verses. Now read them again. And again. Visualize what this looks like for Jesus and what you have available now through His power.
#2: Ephesians 2:6 (NKJV)
6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
Did you catch the highlighted words? Did you realize you are already sitting with Jesus in heavenly places?
#3: Ephesians 2:18 (NKJV)
18 For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.
Holy Spirit is our communication conduit to the Throne Room. He is the one that gives us constant, 24/7 access if we know how to listen to Him and respond to His voice as He only says to us what God or Jesus says to Him.
#4: Ephesians 3:12 (NKJV)
12 in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him.
The word boldness (parrēsia) is defined here as assurance, freedom in speaking, without ambiguity, free and fearless confidence.
